History of Vocational & Career Development (VCD)

VCD came into existence as a result of few likeminded people receiving direction from God to impact the lives of people in terms of their educational, spiritual and personal development. Our Vision is to help people know their Creator God and to fulfill His purpose and plan in and through their lives. This is applied in the mission of the organization to serve children young & old through God centered Career Education & Guidance (CEG) services.

VCD was invited to many schools, colleges, residential homes to introduce CEG. The primary focus was to help integrate formal education curriculum with CEG as a regular program in every education centre. .

CEG addresses 5 major questions:
1. Who am I?
2. Where am I from?
3. What do I have?
4. Where is my destiny?
5. How will I get there?

VCD ROADMAP

Through the past years VCD has effectively delivered CEG services to thousands of students in about 300 regional & local institutions.

VCD also specialized in skill training & development of human potential through employable skills in its training centre integrating it with stewardship & leadership.

Listed below are some highlights of the history of the organization.

1998
• Bal Vikas, a Day Care Centre was run for 70 children from 7 different slums in Rourkela, Odisha. The centre provided basic education along with extracurricular activities and also offered a mid day meal to all children. This project continued till the year 2005.

2000
• Trained 60 young adults in batches of 30 each with 6 different skills (Pottery, Terracotta, Pot painting, Bamboo craft, Mushroom cultivation and Agricultural training). The training aimed to empower participants to use such skills in their respective regions to become entrepreneurs and build a living for themselves. This project was funded by Geneva Research Foundation.

2002
• VCD attained its formal Society registration on 2nd April, 2002 in Delhi, which was chosen to be the location for the registered office.

2005
• Jeevan Jyoti Ashram & Shepherd International School (residential) was started at VCD Centre for 60 children. Most children hailed from the Kandhamal district of Odisha, which went through severe persecution for Christians. Many children from this area lost their family members and were brought to Jeevan Jyoti Ashram. This project continued till the year 2013.

2006
• VCD has also pioneered in introducing treatment of all types of psychological/mental disorders without the use of any medication. This is done through psychotherapy with behaviour modification, empathy and leading of God. Clients are treated keeping in mind the understanding that the root causes are widely spiritual & behavioural in nature.

2010
• In collaboration with the Leprosy Mission of India, VCD conducted a pioneering participatory research on studying the Absorption Capacity of the people in various communities in 4 districts of M.P. and in Faizabad, UP. The aim was to help integrate the Leprosy people with the neighboring communities & understand their Absorption capacity so that every developmental input can be sustained by such community. This research was done between 2010- 2011.

2014
• Shepherd English school was started as a day scholar school, focusing on vocationalised education which catering to the need of the nearby areas. A unique feature of the school is to integrate Career Education and Guidance (CEG) with regular academic subjects from Standard 1 onwards so as to introduce and expand the understanding of students about the scope and future perspective of each subject with multiple Career options. This motivates students to study every subject with great excitement as their horizon enlarges with relevance to the wider circle of the World of Work. CEG is delivered through seminars, hands on activities, field trips, parent-child interviews and much more.
